The Fastest Way to Create Video-based Lessons

Use AI to create a Lesson Plan:

" Classmate is the latest site that I’ve tested for developing lesson plans.

In just a couple of minutes it will create the outline of a complete lesson plan for you.

All you have to do is provide some basic information about your students (grade) and the lesson objective.

The lesson plan will include recommended activities, time allotments, and assessments.

A short overview of how it works can be seen in this video.

C-SPAN AS A SOURCE OF EXCELLENT EDUCATIONAL LESSON PLANS:

"As more schools and teachers explore online instructional options in response to the coronavirus, we have developed tips and strategies that might help you use our resources in an online format.  If you are looking for resources that students can use independently online, all C-SPAN Classroom resources have a unique URL that can be shared with students. If you would like to share lessons and bell ringers with your students to use at home, consider creating a generic class account, or using the following shared log-in credentials listed below:

Username: students
Password: C-SPANCLASSROOM

Strategies for Having Students Use C-SPAN Classroom Resources at Home

  • Share the generic student login information listed above with your students. Include it when assigning any lesson or bell ringer. This login will allow students to access the resource anywhere with internet access. Encourage them to save this login information to whatever device they are using so they can easily access it.
  • Link and assign individual bell ringers to your classes. Students can submit the answers to you individually. Students will need to be able to log-in using the generic username mentioned above.
  • Each of our lesson plans come with a Google Doc handout that students can use. You can assign the Google Doc handouts included in the lesson plans so students can take notes and answer questions about the video clips from the lesson. Students can make digital copies of the Google Doc and complete it. Each Google Doc handout can be linked and distributed to students.
  • Incorporate C-SPAN Deliberations lessons and questions into discussion board assignments using your school's learning management system or other discussion board formats.
  • Use a discussion board to have your students respond to the current event clips found on the C-SPAN Classroom homepage.
  • Have your students use the C-SPAN Video Library to create their own C-SPAN Classroom Deliberation on a topic relating to your course. Students can explore multiple sides of a current and historical topic and develop a Google Site or other website to demonstrate their learning.
  • Assign some of our self-guided and research-based lesson plans to your classes.

With many schools continuing distance learning, you will find several new C-SPAN Classroom lessons and resources below that can be easily implemented into a virtual classroom. These resources include engaging strategies such as digital choice boards, hyperdocs and structured research projects.

Searching for C-SPAN Classroom Resources:

C-SPAN Classroom has over 5,000 free video-based resources for teachers and students to use. Our resources include topics such as civics, U.S. history, world history, economics and geography.

Teachers can search through our resources using keywords, topics, grade level and content type.

In addition to searching our collection of lessons and other resources, we have also organized content by various topics and themes on our Featured Resources Site.

From Campaign 2020 resources, to A.P. Government and Politics content, and chronological listings of our U.S. History resources,

this page may offer a simple way to start your search of our library of available resources.

Below is a sample of the C-SPAN topics found on the Featured Resources Site."

  • CHEMISTRY LESSON PLANS FROM THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY: "  Elementary school science teachers may want to check out Inquiry in Action, a free resource provided by the American Chemical Society. Here, readers will find a collection of fully developed lesson plans on chemistry-related topics that are "based on phenomena students observe and explore through hands-on investigations." As of this write-up, the collection includes lesson plans for kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade classes, with materials organized into thematic chapters. For example, kindergarteners have six lessons on weather-related phenomena, while the chapters for second grade introduce students to the concept of properties of matter, such as dissolving or floating and sinking. The lessons present the concepts "in a 5-E format (Engage, Explore, Explain, Evaluate, and Extend)." Each lesson plan includes background sheets for teachers, and many lessons for higher grade levels also include student activity sheets and student readings. All of the Inquiry in Action lessons are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, and their materials can be downloaded for free as PDFs at the link above."

The Teacher Resources section is packed with lesson plans, activities, and other resources for teachers who would like to help their students understand digital technology in healthy and balanced ways. Educators may like to begin with the Find Lessons & Resources section, where they can search the database according to grade, resource type, topic, and media type. For instance, a reader might search for a lesson plan designed to address video games that is suitable for an audience of eighth-graders. In this case, the search returns three different lesson plans, including a lesson on violence and video games. This collection features well-developed activity plans for K-12 students, each focused on a specific topic. Activities are broadly grouped into grade-level appropriate subjects: elementary grades (e.g. "Jamestown - Factors Affecting Population Change, 1630-1700"), middle school (e.g. "Where Should I Live? Using U.S. Census Bureau Data to Make Decisions"), and high school (e.g. "19th Century Immigration - Causes & Effects"). The webpage for each activity gives a description, states the time and materials required, and provides a list of learning objectives. DIRECTLY FROM THE FREE TECHNOLOGY FOR EDUCATOR's WEBSITE:

"Earlier this week I was catching up on some RSS feeds in Feedly when I came across this drawing from the patent application for the board game that became Monopoly.

That drawing was the featured artifact of the day on the Today's Document website published by the U.S. National Archives. It's a resource that I frequently used when I taught U.S. History. Every day Today's Document features a new image or document from the archives. The documents are usually accompanied by some additional research links and lesson plan resources.

The Library of Congress offers a daily artifact feed similar to the one offered by the National Archives. Today in History from The Library of Congress offers a new image or document along with the story of the notable event or person connected to it. The LOC generally includes more information about the featured artifact than what the National Archives includes about their daily documents.

Applications for Education:
When I [referring to the creator of the FREE TECH FOR EDUCATOR's WEBSITE) was teaching U.S. History I used both of the resources on a regular basis. Sometimes I'd use, with modification, the lesson plans associated with the artifacts. Most of the time I just used the featured artifacts to spark little discussions about moments in history."

I personally have discovered that these two sites are also useful for ESL Classes - to motivate students to speak about what these images mean to them and then motivate them to discuss aspects of their own countries' history.

As the name suggests, this EDSITEMENT Lesson Plan, "Oyez! Oyez! Oyez!: Simulating the Supreme Court," focuses on the "Constitutional responsibilities and powers of the Supreme Court."

This lesson plan is particularly relevant to high school civics and history teachers. The curriculum is designed to introduce students to the Supreme Court's role in context with the other branches of government and includes guiding questions, four classroom activities, handouts, and reference materials.

The first activity introduces students to the Court's purpose and function, while the second and third activities focus on analyzing and arguing court cases (with an emphasis on freedom of speech).

Finally, the fourth activity provides materials for a "Supreme Court simulation," where students take on the roles of justices, attorneys, clerks, and more.

Teachers looking to create an entire Supreme Court unit may enjoy some of the "related" lesson plans highlighted at the bottom of the page, including "John Marshall, Marbury v. Madison, and Judicial Review."
